Services to children, youth and their families are offered as a means of resolving social, emotional and family problems that interfere with their quality of life.

Specialized Services For Children & Youth

Since 2002, new funding has increased our capacity to respond to higher, more complex needs in children and youth.

Intensive Services

Children's Mental Health Birth - 6

This service provides a specialized team approach using several disciplines to serve multi-need, complex-need children from birth to six and their families. Each team has a Counselor/Family Therapist and a specialist in early childhood development with access to psychological and psychiatric consultation as needed. The team works in close collaboration with physicians/pediatricians, public health nurses, child care staff and other community professionals involved with the child and family.

Section 23 Treatment Classrooms

One treatment classroom is available in both Huron (Clinton) and Perth (Stratford) to provide a treatment-focused classroom setting for students whose emotional and/or behavioural needs related to mental health issues make it difficult for them to succeed in a regular classroom. These classrooms are possible through partnership with Avon Maitland District School Board, Huron Perth Catholic District School Board and the Huron Perth Children's Aid Society.

Clinical Supports Intervention (CSI)

Staff in this service are more mobile and often work in settings such as the child's home, school, community, or other out of home settings as needed. Services may involve several staff and are offered to children and youth struggling in multiple settings with multiple issues related to addictions, youth justice, homelessness and/or children in the care of the Children's Aid Society.

Treatment Foster-care Partnership

Clinical services and supports work in collaboration with staff from the Huron-Perth Children's Aid Society and foster parents to offer treatment and support to higher need children and youth in care.

Youth Justice Services

The Centre offers a range of Youth Justice Services to assist youth at various stages of involvment with the youth justice system. Services are focused on the behaviours, concerns and/or offences that brought youth age 12-17 into conflict with their communities. All Youth Justice Services use a strengths-based, restorative justice philosophy and approach that seeks to repair the harm and restore relationships. Staff work in collaboration with children's mental health staff, schools and other service providers to see that other needs are addressed.

School-based Youth Outreach Services (formerly YJ Prevention)

Staff provide school-based services in Huron AMDSB high schools for students for a range of concerns that impact on their ability to be successful in school. Short-term on–site services and/or referrals to other services and supports. Referrals through guidance/school administration, self referral or by calling Clinton office of the Huron-Perth Centre.

Diversion Program

This program accepts referrals from Perth County OPP and Stratford Police Services as an alternative to charges and traditional court involvement for first time or non-violent offences. The goal of the program is to coordinate an individualized plan with the youth and their family that makes amends to the victim in a timely way. Includes coordination of the TAPP-C program (Arson Prevention program) and referrals can be made by phone/fax to: Coordinator (519) 271-9454 x 234 | (519) 273-0892 (fax)

Youth Justice Committee

This program, funded by the Ministry of the Attorney General, uses trained volunteers to hold young people in conflict with the law accountable for their actions in an inclusive manner. Victims are encouraged to participate, harm is acknowledged and all those involved begin to rebuild their relationships with community integrity. Priority from the Crown Attorney. For information about volunteering, contact: Coordinator (519) 271-9454 x 232 (Perth only) | (519) 273-0892 (fax)

Youth Justice Dedicated to Probation

Mental Health staff work in conjunction with child and youth workers to provide assessment, treatment and support to youth and their families serving a probation order and referred by their probation officer for specific needs. This service is similar to the Intensive "CSI" but reserved for probation referrals.
