  • Teach awareness of self and others in order to detect potentially dangerous situations.

  • Teach interpersonal skills - listening, problem-solving, verbalizing feelings, negotiation, assertiveness, conflict resolution, self-regulation and simple courtesy.

  • Model appropriate behaviour and self-discipline.

  • Use incidents of aggression in the media and current events to demonstrate the unacceptable nature of aggression.

  • Monitor videos and games for violence and eliminate violent games from your home.

  • Challenge children to consider peaceful solutions.

  • Practice acts of kindness.

  • Demonstrate a healthy tolerance for differences.

  • Encourage the development of positive activities, which promote a healthy sense of self-worth and strengths.

  • Support the development of peer mediation programs. Peer mediation programs at schools have been shown to decrease bullying behaviour by 50-65%.
