To
Show Children That Their Feelings Are Accepted and
Respected…
1.
Listen
quietly and attentively.
2.
Acknowledge their feelings with a word.
"Oh…Mmm…I
see…"
3.
Give the feeling a name.
"That sounds
frustrating!"
4.
All feelings can be accepted. Certain actions
must be limited.
"I can see how angry you are
at your brother." "Tell him what you want
with words or a note, not fists."
5.
Give them their wishes in fantasy.
"I wish I could make the time pass faster for
you." "If I could I'd wave a wand and make
that bike appear right now!"
